Dear brothers and sisters,
Today’s Gospel (Lk 10:25-37) presents us with a parable which sums up so much of the teaching of Jesus. Jesus is confronted by a hostile lawyer who first asks him a trick question: ‘What must I do to inherit eternal life?’ Jesus answers this challenge with a challenge of his own by asking ‘what is written in the Law?’ The lawyer responds correctly by quoting the need to love God and neighbour. So, the lawyer already had the answer to his own question and is shown up. To justify himself he asks another trick question, ‘Who is my neighbour?’ Read more…
