The Collect Prayer of the Mass gives us a way to approach the Readings and the whole celebration. In reading today’s prayer for the second Sunday of Lent, which comes from seventh century Spain, we follow the insights of Gerard Moore: “O God, who have commanded us to listen to your beloved Son, be pleased to nourish us inwardly by your word, that, with spiritual sight made pure, we may rejoice to behold your glory.” Today’s prayer begins with being commanded to listen to Jesus.
