Frequently Asked Questions
If you have more questions, please make contact with a priest or the parish office. In the matters of faith there are no questions too hard or too silly.
Do I have to be Catholic?
No! You are most welcome to join us. We believe the story and the person of Jesus is for everyone.
I am feeling nervous as I haven’t been to church for a long time. Will I feel outcast?
Church isn’t only for those who regularly practice their faith, it is for all. Some things may be a little different than you remember but hopefully, you will feel at home.
How long does the service go for and what happens?
Weekend masses are usually under an hour. Sometimes a morning tea is offered afterwards. We listen and reflect on readings from Scripture. We pray for the world and give thanks to God. We receive the body and Blood of Christ in Holy Communion. We are renewed and we are sent out into the world.
Can I bring my children?
Children are most welcome. There is the option for younger children to gather with a parent leader to hear the word of God in a child friendly manner using activities and singing. The children return to the church to sit with you again after approximately 30 minutes.
Do I have to participate? Will I be asked to do anything?
We want you to feel relaxed when you come and you do not need to do or say anything. If you are asked to do something you are able to decline with a smile. You can remain anonymous or you may like to introduce yourself to one of the hospitality people.
Will I be asked to give money?
There will be two collections. One to support the needs of the parish and one to support the needs of the priest. There is no expectation that you have to contribute. Many parishioners give electronically. Find out more here.
In Mass I would like to go to the priest but I am not Catholic. Can I?
Yes, you can join the Communion Procession; cross your arms across your chest to signify you are not receiving Communion but desire a blessing.
